Denmark Unveils USD439M Program to Bolster Ukraine’s EU Integration

(MENAFN) Denmark has unveiled a €375 million ($439 million) initiative aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s EU integration, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced Friday.

“Today, Lars (Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen) will officially launch the new Ukraine Transition Program,” Sybiha stated during a joint press briefing with his Danish counterpart, noting the program is set to run for three years.

The initiative will prioritize strengthening resilience and early recovery, enhancing energy security, promoting the shift to green energy, and advancing democratic institution-building.

Kyiv anticipates that the negotiation clusters for EU accession will soon be initiated under Denmark’s EU presidency.

“This systematic integration project is designed for three years, with a budget of €375 million,” Sybiha underscored.

In related developments, Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka said Ukraine is in the “home stretch” of aligning its laws with EU standards.

Ukraine’s EU accession is also a key topic in forthcoming discussions on security guarantees.

Most EU member states back starting membership talks in 2025, with Hungary standing as the sole opponent. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto declared that Budapest does not care “what Moscow thinks about Ukraine’s EU membership.”

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently expressed surprise at Hungary’s stance, remarking that “even Russia does not oppose” Ukraine joining the EU.
