Denmark Set to Finalize Record USD9.11B Arms Deal
(MENAFN) Denmark is poised to finalize its largest-ever arms acquisition, valued at 58 billion Danish crowns ($9.11 billion), the country’s Defense Ministry revealed on Friday.
The landmark defense deal will see the purchase of additional ground-based air defense systems, with a total of eight units, each offering long or medium-range capabilities. "This is the largest single investment in the reconstruction of the Danish defense to date," the Ministry confirmed in a statement.
The air defense systems will be sourced from a consortium of European manufacturers in France, Italy, Germany, and Norway.
Troels Lund Poulsen, Denmark's Defense Minister, emphasized the urgency of this move, stating, "The current security policy situation means that ground-based air defence is an absolute top priority in the development of the Danish Armed Forces. Experience from Ukraine shows that ground-based air defence plays a crucial role in protecting, among other things, the civilian population against Russian attacks from the air."
Each of the eight ground-based air defense systems will comprise four units, capable of independently launching guided missiles. These systems are designed to safeguard cities, military sites, and critical infrastructure across Denmark.
